Featured public sector solar energy project:

U.S. Marine Corps Air Ground Combat solar project

Project: U.S. Marine Corps Air Ground Combat
Location: Twentynine Palms, CA
System Size: 1.5 MW

This installation was part of a larger renovation project at the complex at the U. S. Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) and required close collaboration with all parties involved. Blue Oak was able to provide valuable guidance on how to adapt the arrays to complicated architecture , and our use of 3D modeling software clearly and quickly conveyed to the team various design options. Our expertise in PV design, coupled with our experience working with Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), helped keep the project's ambitious schedule on track.

Hemet Schools solar project Hemet Schools solar project Hemet Schools solar project Hemet Schools solar project Hemet Schools solar project

Project: Hemet Schools
Location: Hemet, CA
System Size: 4.4MW across 17 sites
Utility Company: SCE

The Hemet Unified School District had the opportunity to reduce its electric consumption by installing solar arrays on rooftops and carports across the City's various school campuses. The school district ultimately installed solar across rooftops and carports at 17 school campuses. Blue Oak provided the DC and AC electrical design for the power purchase provider. We delivered consistent engineering documentation and quality control processes to help multiple stakeholders successfully deliver these projects. Our team also contributed by providing system commissioning inspections and as-built drawings.

USVA Sacramento solar project

Project: USVA – Sacramento
Location: Sacramento, CA
System Size: 558kW
Utility Company: SMUD

This solar carport system is an expansion of an existing solar array on the site. Blue Oak Energy designed the initial solar at this site in 2010. The expansion was designed and constructed by Blue Oak in 2013. This solar array is load-side interconnected at the site and reduces electricity usage by the USVA hospital.

USVA San Diego solar project

Project: USVA – San Diego
Location: San Diego, CA
System Size: 250kW
Utility Company: SDG&E

This distributed generation rooftop solar electric project is an excellent example of what occurs to work around existing equipment and facility requirements. The project was specifically designed to meet the stringent US Government facility requirements. Blue Oak Energy provided the electrical and mechanical engineering services for this project and provided support during initial bidding through final construction close-out.

California State Prisons solar project

Project: California State Prisons
Location: Chuckawalla Valley and Ironwood, Blythe CA
System Size: 4 MW Aggregate

These two projects were part of the California Department of General Services distributed generation initiative. These solar arrays are separated by some distance, but connect into the same electrical distribution feeder.

Rutgers University solar project

Project: Rutgers University
Location: Livingston, NJ
System Size: 1.35 MW

This is the largest solar energy system to be installed on a college campus to-date. The array was designed to accommodate the existing uneven topography of the site without having to do extensive grading.

Colorado State University solar project

Project: Colorado State University
Location: Pueblo, CO
System Size: 1.1 MW

Engineering plans for this project were completed in only two weeks. Close coordination by a cross-disciplinary team of geotechnical, structural, civil and electrical professionals enabled us to provide a solution for this complex site.

Palo Verde Community College solar project

Project: Palo Verde Community College
Location: Blythe, CA
System Size: 1.2 MW

At the time of completion, this solar facility supplied approximately 80% of the college's energy needs. Further, a new ballasted racking system along with ideal site conditions facilitated complete installation in record time.

Denver Federal Center Solar Park solar project

Project: Denver Federal Center Solar Park
Location: Denver, CO
System Size: 1.2 MW

This solar energy project reduced the Federal Government Service Administration's energy consumption by more than 1600 MWh per year; this is equivalent to powering 145 homes in Colorado.

Oakland International Airport solar project

Project: Oakland International Airport
Location: Oakland, CA
System Size: 750 kW

The aging electrical infrastructure at this site provided some interesting challenges for the Port of Oakland's first photovoltaic system. However, with the help of the Port's dedicated facilities team, the project was successfully completed.

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) solar project

Project: San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Location: San Francisco, CA
System Size: 600 kW

This facility was commissioned for installation by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission as part of the $100M public bond issued for solar projects. This unique array can be viewed from the airport's transit station.

Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District solar project

Project: Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District
Location: Marin County, CA
System Size: 600 kW

At time of completion this facility offset 90% of the District's power needs. Engineering challenges included sensitive wetlands area, as well as developing a foundation solution for the 2-acres of “bay mud”.

Holliston Solar Facility

Project: Holliston Solar Facility
Location: Pasadena, CA
System Size: 238 kW

This facility was part of the California Institute of Technology sustainability program. The solar modules are supported by an innovative space frame structure to allow for wide spans using fewer columns.

Otay Mesa Water Treatment Plan solar project

Project: Otay Mesa Water Treatment Plan
Location: San Diego, CA
System Size: 944 kW

This unique facility for the City of San Diego includes a ground-mounted array as well as arrays built upon two storage tanks. This deployment for the City of San Diego is part of the city's plan to deploy 5MW of solar capacity.

Mesa Top Photovoltaic Array solar project

Project: Mesa Top Photovoltaic Array
Location: Golden, CO
System Size: 721 kW

The US Department of Energy commissioned this single-axis tracker array for use at National Renewable Energy Laboratory. This was part of the Transformation Energy Action Management (TEAM) initiative for on-site renewable electricity generation.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) solar project

Project: Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
Location: Hayward, CA
System Size: 255 kW

This system is mounted on top of the BART maintenance shop in Hayward. The building roofs were at different heights, with the center portion of the roof being about 10' higher than either side, so shading influenced the final array layout.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) solar project

Project: Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
Location: Richmond, CA
System Size: 160 kW

This system is on top of the BART maintenance shop building in Richmond. The system is completely ballasted and did not penetrate the rooftop's membrane, which was a strict requirement from the client.
